The Four Strategic Imperatives

1

Academic Enterprise—$711 million

To ensure a personalized educational experience for all Dartmouth students, relevant to their time

The Case

Dartmouth educates its students to think critically, stretch their talents, and develop their capacity for leadership. To do this well, with an eye to the future, requires programs that respond to society's challenges and embrace cutting-edge disciplines. The quality of the learning environment affects our ability to recruit and retain faculty who mentor, teach, and inspire students through Dartmouth's celebrated student-faculty interaction.

The Need

To invest $716 million in faculty, facilities, and equipment.

The Impact

By investing in the recruitment and retention of faculty, Dartmouth will strengthen its commitment to teaching and learning. More faculty will mean a more personalized educational experience for each student, with smaller classes and greater opportunities for students to do significant independent work. Investment in emerging fields will keep Dartmouth responsive in the changing marketplace of ideas and issues. Attention to basics, including writing and mathematics across the curriculum, will fortify our historic mission as an institution that produces thought leaders. Finally, investment in critically needed classrooms, laboratories, and studios will ensure that the College can embrace its future with confidence.
