The Four Strategic Imperatives
4
Annual Giving—$244 million
To help Dartmouth remain nimble and meet its pressing financial needs
The Case
Dartmouth's endowment has tripled in size over the past decade, yet its endowment per student is one-third that of its leading competitor. Still, Dartmouth scores at the very top of U.S. News and World Report's rankings in undergraduate teaching and in the top ten among national research universities. To ensure the quality of the student experience and remain competitive with its peers, Dartmouth relies on annual giving from alumni, parents, and friends for nearly 10 percent of its operating budget.
The Need
To invest $244 million in annual support for the College and the professional schools in order to sustain the Dartmouth Experience for all students.
The Impact
Vigorous growth in annual giving will allow the College to remain flexible and focused in meeting its most pressing needs and seizing those opportunities that further its mission. Unrestricted contributions in particular will give Dartmouth the discretionary ability to act on new initiatives and enhance student services throughout the year. Such gifts also help relieve pressure on the endowment and tuition as funding sources, strengthening Dartmouth's position as one of the top institutions in the country.
